Welcome to Hotel Elkhart
For nearly a century, Hotel Elkhart has been the pride and joy of the local community. Through our restoration and innovation, we’ve preserved Elkhart’s history, connecting past and present and providing a place to share (and make new) memories.
Our Story
Our striking brick building at 500 S. Main St. has been a downtown Elkhart landmark since it opened its doors in the early 1920s. Back then, the city was on the cusp of a renaissance with a shining new theatrical palace on Main Street and a humble RV manufacturer that would soon make Elkhart a microcosm of the RV industry.
And in the center of it all was our 100-room grand hotel, hosting America’s highest dignitaries like Bob Hope and JFK in jazz-age elegance that you can still see in our lobby and ballrooms today. In the late 1920s, the Athenian Ballroom was added, making Hotel Elkhart the tallest building in the city with the best view of the Elkhart River.
In 1974, Hotel Elkhart found a new role in hospitality as an assisted living facility before transforming again to house a variety of offices, restaurants, and apartments over the years.
In 2021, to the delight of the community, Hotel Elkhart returned to its original purpose as the city’s downtown hotel, 98 years after its opening.
And now, Hotel Elkhart is reborn. Staying true to its rich history and loyal to the community who embraced it, our reimagined downtown hotel weaves the city’s storied past and artistic upcomings into the present moment for a boutique hotel experience unlike any other.
Welcome to an Elkhart original with hospitality reimagined.
